Deborah Guariglia Sopp, age 57, a lifelong resident of Old Forge, passed away Thursday evening under the care of Geisinger Community Medical Center’s VNA Hospice Unit in Scranton. She is survived by her beloved husband and best friend, Ronald Sopp. Wed on May 6, 1978, the couple were married for 36 years.
Born on July 11, 1956, daughter of Dorothy Metro Guariglia of Scranton and the late John Guariglia, Debbie was a graduate of Old Forge High School, Class of 1974. Upon graduation, she attended both Keystone and Lackawanna Colleges. She worked as a medical secretary for Clinical Labs in Scranton and prior to her bout with Cancer, she worked as cafeteria supervisor for Scranton High School. She always enjoyed trips to play slots at the Mohegan Sun and was also an avid cook around her home. An animal lover, she adored her dog Pugsley. Leaving behind a countless amount of supportive and loving relatives and friends, she was a loving wife, mother and daughter who will forever be missed.
Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a longtime member of Prince of Peace Parish in Old Forge.
She is also survived by her loving children, her daughter Lyndsay Sopp, and her son Ryan Sopp, both of Old Forge.
Her family would like to acknowledge the staffs of both VNA and Hospice of the Sacred Heart, and Drs. Christopher Peters, Kenneth Sebastianelli and William Heim, for the amazing care given to both Debbie and her family throughout her illness.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Monday at 9:15AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Prince of Peace Parish, Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. August Ricciardi, Pastor. Burial will follow in the Old Forge Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Sunday between 4-8:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Debbie’s name to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart’s Memorial Fund, 600 Baltimore Drive, #7, Wilkes Barre, 18702.
