Robert Williams, age 82, a resident of Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, died early Wednesday morning. Born in West Scranton, son of the late Daniel and Ethel Jacobs Williams, Robert was a proud United States Army Veteran having served during the Korean War. He was also a member of the American Legion, Post 306, of Taylor. Prior to his retirement, he worked in hydrolic maintenance for the Witco Chemical Corporation of Perth Amboy, New Jersey. Born and raised in West Scranton, he was a member of the former First Baptist Church. He will be dearly missed by those who loved him.
He is survived by his son, Robert A. Williams of Halstead, New York; his brother and best friend, Larry Williams and wife Shirley of Jefferson Twp.; nieces and nephews; and three grandchildren.
Four brothers, Jack, Delbert, Daniel and Robert Williams, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday to begin at 11:00AM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with burial to follow at Spring Brook Cemetery with full military honors by the AMVETS Honor Guard.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00AM until services.
In gratitude of the tremendous care given to Robert during his stay, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center Memorial Fund, 401 Penn Avenue, Scranton, 18503.
