Dr. Timothy F. Moran Jr., 74, of Sioux City died on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at a Sioux City Hospital.
Born on July 30, 1939 in Scranton, son of Dr. Timothy F. Sr. and Lenore (Boland) Moran, he was raised in Scranton and graduated from Georgetown Prep School in Garrett Park, Maryland. He graduated from the University of Scranton and received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Temple University School of Medicine.
On June 18, 1966 he married Theresa “Terry” Kuckuck at Annunciation BVM Church in Havertown. Dr. Moran served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond and then began private practice in Springfield, Illinois.
In 1987, Dr. Moran moved his family to Sioux City where he practiced at the Moran Eye Center. He was president of the Woodbury Medical Society and served as a delegate to the Iowa Medical Society. In 2004, he was named ‘Physician of the Year’ by the Woodbury Medical Society. He served on the Board of Directors for the Siouxland Medical Doctors. He was a Fellow in the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a life member of the American Medical Association. Dr. Moran was the first ophthalmologist in the area to participate in Mission Cataract with Mercy Medical Center. He has volunteered his services at Siouxland Community Health Center since 2004.
In 1988 he and Terry co-founded the Marian Center at Trinity Heights. He was named the first Irishman of the Year by the Sioux City St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee 2012. He has been a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for 27 years.
He is survived by his wife, Terry, of Sioux City; five daughters, Kerry Hope and husband Sean, Jennifer Moran, Stephanie Salvatore and husband and Rob, Kris Isgro and husband Danny, Lindsay Moran; two sons, Timothy Moran and wife Kristin and Patrick Moran and wife Amanda; a son-in-law, Jason Lint; ten grandchildren, Alex, A.J., and Audri Hope, Frank Lint, Monica, Owen, and Emmett Moran, Logan and Grace Isgro, Natalie Moran; two brothers, Christopher Moran, Dr. Kurt Moran and wife Jill; a sister-in-law, Ronnie Poli and husband Larry; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Tracey Moran and Monica Lint; and a sister, Peggy Moran.
Funeral Services were held on Monday, March 17, 2014 at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Burial in Calvary Cemetery followed.
