Dolores Lacomy Mokay, 84, of Old Forge, passed into internal life peacefully Saturday, March 8, at home surrounded by her family.
Dolores “D” Mokay was born in Old Forge, daughter of the late Paul and Ann Rishko Lacomy. She was the widow of Michael Mokay Sr., who died in August 1989. She was a graduate of Old Forge High School, class of 1947, the Conservatory of Music, majoring in piano, and Empire Beauty School. She worked at Brook Mfg. Co., and was recently employed by St. Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church in Old Forge, where she managed Thursday Night Bingo and had baked the church bread for the past 35 years.
She loved her family, friends and doing volunteer work. Dolores had a collection of more than 300 angels and a collection of music boxes. She was always lucky, and finding four-leaf clovers was an amazing trait she had. You could find hundreds of clovers throughout her home.
Dolores was a committee volunteer of the American Cancer Society Daffodil Day sales. She also volunteered in the Religious Gift Shop, during the annual novena in honor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Basil the Great, Uniontown, Pa.
She was a member and trustee of St. Nicholas Byzantine Church in Old Forge and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was past president of the Perpetual Help Society, secretary of the Scranton Byzantine Choir, and was on the St. Nicholas Fundraising Committee. She was a member of the Greek Catholic Union, where she represented the District Five as its publicity and fraternal activities director and served on the Scholarship committee. She was presented the 1999 “Fraternalist of the Year” award. Dolores was a delegate to the Greek Catholic Union National Conventions, and served on several committees including the balloting resolutions at the 2012 convention on the legal committee.
She is survived by her son, Michael P. and wife, Linda, with whom she resided; grandson, Michael J. and wife, Katie; great-grandson, Jamie George, Clifton Park, N.Y.; nieces, nephews, cousins and sisters/brothers-in-law.
Her family appreciates all the care given to her by family, friends, VNA Hospice, Mountain View Care Center, the Rev. Pastor Eduard Shestak, the Rev. Gary Mensinger and the Rev. Michael Kuchera.
Please join the family in the celebration of her life at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a parastas service at 7. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at St. Nicholas Bzyantine Catholic Church Friday at 10 a.m. by the Rev. Eduard Shestak. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery, Old Forge.
