Claus Peter Woerffel, age 77, of Dupont, passed away Monday at home. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Lou Haefs Woerffel, with whom he would have celebrated a 32nd wedding anniverary with on June 18th. Born in Berlin, Germany, on September 9, 1936, son of the late Max and Martha Kuhne Woerffel. Peter served in the U.S. Army from 1962-64. He became a U.S. citizen in 1996. Peter worked for various bus companies, before retiring from Martz Bus Company as their maintenance director and later from Falzone’s as an escort driver.
He is survived by his children, Andrew Lebrecht of West Pittston, and Melissa Jo Thompson and husband Michael of Atco, New Jersey; siblings, sister Christine and her husband Klaus, and brother, Tim Woerffel, both of Germany; and sister-in-law, Erika, nephew Glenn and wife Beverly of Canada. A brother, Henry Woerffel, also preceded him in death in 1980.
His family wishes to thank Dr. Luigi Spagnolini, his nurse Nicole Nemic and the wonderful nurses at Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the tremendous care given to Peter during his illness.
Funeral services by Rev. David Searing are scheduled for Saturday at 11:00AM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday between 4-7:00PM and Saturday from 10:30AM until services at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Memorial Fund, 600 Baltimore Drive, #7, Wilkes Barre, PA, 18702.
