Helen T. Casey, age 70, of Old Forge, died Thursday afternoon at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia after an illness. She is survived by her beloved husband, Edward Casey. The couple would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 29th. Born in the Green Ridge section of Scranton, on December 15, 1943, daughter of the late Joseph B.and Helen McCormick Langan, Helen was a graduate of the former Scranton Technical High School before earning her Bachelors Degree from Marywood College. Prior to her retirement, she ran a home children’s daycare. Formerly very active with the Old Forge School District’s PTA, she was also a Cub Scout Den Mother and a CCD teacher at St. Lawrence Parish in Old Forge. She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish.
A loving and caring woman, Helen’s world revolved around her family. She adored her four children and her nine ‘heavenly-blessed’ grandchildren, who meant everything to her. She will never be forgotten and will always be missed.
Also surviving are four children, Edward Casey and wife Susanne of Laurel Springs, New Jersey, Jack Casey and wife Joann, Colleen Mancuso and Kerrie Amann and husband John, all of Old Forge; a brother, Robert Langan and wife Ann of Old Bridge, New Jersey; half sisters, Rosie and Debbie Langan and Peggie Franklin and husband Rev. Richard; a half brother, John Langan; nine grandchildren, Ryan, Christopher, Meghan, Jonathan and Jessica Casey, Michael and Matthew Mancuso, and Jordan and Sean Ohler; and many nieces and nephews.
She was raised by her Aunt Marion “Mimi” and Uncle William Bulgar of Scranton. Brothers, Jackie, Joseph, Paul, Thomas and Gerald Langan, also preceded her in death.
Her family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Mark Lyons for his tremendous care throughout the years.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Wednesday at 9:15AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial at Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis Street in Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Francis L. Pauselli, Pastor. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday between 5-8:00PM at the funeral home.
