Kathy Martin, 58, a lifelong resident of West Scranton, passed away Thursday evening under the care of the VNA Hospice Unit at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. She is survived by her beloved husband, Ken Martin of Scranton. Born on September 14, 1955, daughter of Mary Gerrity Loscombe of Scranton and the late John (Jack) Loscombe, Sr., Kathy was a graduate of West Scranton High School, Class of 1973. Upon graduation from the Mercidian School of Practical Nursing in Scranton, she began her career as an LPN with Community Medical Center which spanned 37 years. She loved her work, and if not for illness, she would have continued nursing for many more years. With her husband serving as president, Kathy volunteered with the West Scranton Falcons football program for 25 years helping raise money by running the concession stands, organizing dances, and doing essentially anything needed to be done to support her husband, the program at large, but most importantly, to provide for the children of the West Side Falcons and give them the best experience possible. Having an enormous heart, Kathy never had anything negative to say about anyone, always finding the best in people. She was greatly admired by everyone and her legacy of love, care and a selfless nature lives on with her family. Most admired by her children, Kathy was the most beautiful and amazing mother and Grammy who will forever be remembered for her strength and guidance. Loved by so many, she will never be forgotten. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Scranton. She is also survived by her children, daughter, Dana Willson and partner Kyle Lentes; son, Eric Mills and wife Amy; and step-daughter, Megan Martin; her siblings, John (Jack) Loscombe, Jr. and wife Susan, Richard Loscombe and wife Melissa, Mary Ellen Flannery and husband Robert, and David Loscombe; three grandchildren whom she adored greatly, Zackary, Mia Bella and Lucas, all of Scranton; and many nieces and nephews. Also preceding her in death was an infant brother, James Loscombe. Her family would like to collectively thank Dr. Kenneth Gentilezza, the nurses of Geisinger CMC and the staff of the VNA Hospice Unit for the care they gave Kathy during her most difficult time and also the Scranton community for their continued love and support for Kathy and her family throughout her illness. Please join them to celebrate Kathy’s life for a memorial fundraiser, “Kare for Kathy”, to be held at the Villa Maria II, 1610 Washburn Street in West Scranton, on Sunday from 4-9:00PM. Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Tuesday at 9:15AM from the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton, with a 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson Street in Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Martin Boylan, Pastor. Interment will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday between 4-7:00PM at the funeral home.
