Eileen (Gig-Gee) Karnis, age 58, a longtime resident of Moosic, died February 17th in Marco Island, Florida, while vacationing with her family. Born in Scranton on August 12, 1955, daughter of the late David and Ann Marie Connor Brown, Eileen was a graduate of Riverside High School. She began her career as a preschool teacher where she acted as a mother-figure to countless children. She most recently worked as a Certified Nurse’s Aide for River Run Nursing Home in Kingston where both her coworkers and patients meant the world to her.
Throughout her life, Eileen had touched many lives. Her selfless, humble and generous nature will be her legacy left behind. A loving mother, sister, aunt, friend, and especially grandmother, she adored her two grandchildren Cole and Paige, taking an active role in all aspects of their lives. Undoubtedly loved by all who knew her, she will be forever missed.
She is survived by her adoring children, Kris Karnis of Moosic and Melissa Dymek and husband Brian of Spring Brook Twp.; her siblings, Mike Brown and wife Diane of Florida, and Sharon Yackobowitz and husband John of Taylor; brothers-in-law, Scott Rosser of Moosic, Lee Rosser of Dupont, Mark Felkowski of Old Forge, and John Tomasetti of Florida; sisters-in-law, Michaelene Felkowski of Old Forge, Mary Lou Tomasetti of Florida, and Karen Sulz of Scranton; many nieces and nephews; and her true inspiration and adoration in life, her grandchildren Cole and Paige.
Also preceding her in death was her mother and father-in-law, Mary Lou and Harold Rosser.
A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Friday at 9:30AM at Queen of the Apostles Parish, 715 Hawthorne Street in Avoca, to be celebrated by Rev. Phillip J. Sladicka, Pastor. Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday from 5-8:00PM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Eileen’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
