Thomas E. Gatto, age 89, a lifelong resident of Old Forge, passed away Monday morning after a brief stay at Mountain View Care Center in Scranton. Born on September 4, 1924, son of the late Patrick and Rose Bamonte Gatto, Thomas was a graduate of Old Forge High School, Class of 1942. For nearly fifty years until his retirement, he worked as a shipping and receiving clerk for the former Lackawanna Pants Company. An avid bowler years ago, he once bowled a perfect ‘300’ game. He enjoyed traveling, having traveled all over the world including many visits to Europe. His favorite pastime was gardening. A loving and caring man, his family was always the most important part of his life. He especially enjoyed celebrating his birthday with his many family members each Labor Day weekend with a patio cookout. Tom also loved hosting holiday meals for his family over the years, and stopping by to visit “Uncle Tommy” during each holiday was a “must” for everyone in his family.
He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Nancy Parrick of Old Forge, and Sonja Posdon of Taylor; nine nieces and nephews, Dan Ceccacci of Scranton, Rosemary French of Freeville, New York, Frank Ceccacci and wife Diane of Verona, New Jersey, Dave Gatto and wife Marion of Scranton, Patti Stroney and husband Brian of Lake Winola, Barbara Nowogorski and husband Joe of Scranton, John Gatto and wife Donna of Old Forge, Lori Mascaro and husband Joe of Old Forge, Jim Gatto and wife Amanda of Pennsburg, and Bill Posdon of Taylor; 13 great nieces and great nephews; and one great-great nephew.
Brothers, John, James and Frank Gatto; and sisters, Eleanor and Marcelline Gatto and Marie Ceccacci, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday at 10:00AM in the Moosic Assembly of God Church, 477 3rd Street in Moosic, to be conducted by Rev. David O’Brien, Pastor. Interment will follow in Old Forge Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 6-8:00PM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 N. Main Street, Old Forge,
